How to get good images

First things first: try to avoid making images holding the camera in your hand. Yes, it works! But making images laying the camera down is a so much nicer experience. And it is so easy, see the post Smartphone holder.

When using the strip reader for the first time you may get an error message. Especially, if you take the image by hand. The algorithm contains a few filters that reject images which may lead to false readings. Please follow the recommendations for an optimal experience:

• Use background: print the instruction for use and use it as background for the image. Place the strip on the grey bar.
• Use flash: in most settings, using flash improves the image. Only in bright daylight, flash may lead to overexposed images that will be rejected.
• Hold the camera close to the test strip: the size of the strip on the image should be at least half of the screen size.
• Use landscape: when taking the photo by hand, make sure to hold the camera or smartphone horizontally and make sure that the length of the strip is parallel to the longer side of the image.
• Use automatic white balance: normally, nothing to do here, this is the general setting of most cameras. The reader tolerates deviations, but if a white area looks more yellow then the reader cannot do its magic.
